RX Hitch Installation

RX Hitch lets a player tie their horse to almost anything in the world. Instead of using fixed hitching posts, the player points at a spot, a placement sphere follows the raycast, and the horse is anchored where they confirm.

The resource is standalone. It needs no framework and stores nothing, so installation is limited to placing it, starting it, and checking for control conflicts.

Requirements

RequirementWhy it is needed
A RedM serverRX Hitch uses RedM markers, input hashes, and world raycasts.

No framework, database, or inventory item is required.

1. Place the resource

Extract the complete resource into your server’s resources directory. The default extracted folder name is rx_hitch.

2. Add it to server.cfg

ensure rx_hitch

If you renamed the resource folder, replace rx_hitch with that exact folder name.

3. Check for control conflicts

RX Hitch binds two controls. E is deliberately left free so mounting the horse still works while the prompt is on screen.

Stop or rebind any resource that listens for R during a horse interaction. Two resources on the same control usually means the hitch confirms while another action also fires.

4. Decide which objects can be used

ObjectMode is 'any' by default, which accepts every stationary object that is not blocked. Switch to 'whitelist' if hitching should be limited to specific models:

Config.ObjectMode = 'any' -- 'any' or 'whitelist'

AllowWorldGeometry is enabled alongside it, letting players select map surfaces that are not standalone objects. Disable it if hitching should only work on real object entities. See Configuration for the model lists and surface limits.

5. Verify the interaction

Restart the resource and test on foot with a horse nearby:

  1. Standing near your horse shows the Select Hitching Point prompt.
  2. Pressing R opens selection and the placement sphere follows where you point.
  3. The sphere turns to its valid colour on a usable surface and its invalid colour otherwise.
  4. Confirming with R anchors the horse at that point.
  5. The prompt changes to Unhitch Horse and releasing the horse works.
  6. Pointing too far away, or too far from the horse, is rejected.
  7. Leaving selection idle cancels it after SelectionTimeout.

If selection never starts, confirm the player is on foot and the horse is within HorseSearchRadius. Both conditions are checked before the prompt appears.

Then continue to Configuration.
